Yuen Leong Sin Fatt Temple spreads festive cheer to senior citizens of Kampung Cempaka, PJ


More than 200 senior citizens from Kampung Cempaka new village in Petaling Jaya were presented with essential food items for the Chinese New Year festivities.

The recipients aged 60 and above each received a goody bag filled with among others, rice, biscuits, cooking oil, milk and Sedaap instant noodles and vermicelli.

The annual charity event to spread community spirit and bring festive cheer to senior citizens at the new village was organized by Yuen Leong Sin Fatt Temple, Kampung Cempaka in conjunction with the upcoming Lunar New Year of the Golden Rabbit. The funding for this campaign came from donations received in cash and kind from donors and well-wishers.

It was held at the basketball court opposite the temple in Jalan PJU 1/34 on Sunday 23rd January 2011.

Temple advisers Dato’ Lim Choon Kin, Dato’ Kho Poh Eng and Dato’ Dr. Wong Sai Hou were present to distribute goody bags to the senior citizens who were also treated to fried meehoon (vermicelli) and porridge.

Present to lend support to the charity event were Section 21 SEA Park Residents Association (RA) chairman Gan Keng and Section 21 SEA Park Rukun Tetangga (RT) deputy chairman Cliff Yin and secretary Jimmy Tee.

Lau Weng San walkabout in SEA Park handing out CNY lanterns and angpow packets


Kampung Tunku state assemblyman (ADUN) YB Lau Weng San was welcomed with open arms during his walkabout at the commercial areas of Section 21 SEA Park in Petaling Jaya on Sunday morning 23rd January 2011.

Many among the traders, business owners, customers and residents recognised Lau when he approached to shake hands and wish them “Gong Xi Fa Cai” (Wishing You A Properous New Year).

Lau Weng San went on a stall-to-stall visit at the SEA Park wet market and visited the shops in the commercial areas handing out Chinese New Year lanterns and angpow packets to traders and business owners in conjunction with the upcoming Lunar New Year.

The people were smiling and greeting their YB (Yang Berhormat). They were excited and happy in the interaction with their “wakil rakyat” (elected representative). Many enthusiastically posed for photos with their YB.

During the walkabout, the people spoke to him and some of them used the opportunity to highlight their problems and concerns.

Assisting Lau in the two-hour-long walkabout were Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor Jeyaseelen Anthony, supporters and volunteers who completed the occassion at 10.30 am with light meal and drinks at Khoong Restaurant in Jalan 21/17.

SEA Park is in the Kampung Tunku constituency.

CIMB Bank and ADUN Kg Tunku contribute RM210,000 to Lions Club of KL Bukit Kiara for sight conservation project


CIMB Bank under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) initiative, CIMB Community Link, contributed RM200,000 sum to Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara to carry out its Sight Conservation Project to help fund cataract operations for 200 underprivileged elderly people whose visions are affected by cataracts.

State assemblyman for Kampung Tunku (ADUN) YB Lau Weng San also contributed RM10,000 sum towards the Sight Conservation Program to help fund eye glassses for the poor with vision problems in the SEA Park neighbourhood.

CIMB Bank regional director 2 Freddie Acho Bian and Kampung Tunku state assemblyman (ADUN) YB Lau Weng San presented the mock cheques in a ceremony held at CIMB Bank SEA Park Branch on Saturday 22nd January 2011.

Lions Club of KL Bukit Kiara president Lion Chew Seok Chen said, “The aim of this community service project is to help and provide free screening for eye conditions and early detection of eye problems to the underprivileged community especially school children and the hardcore poor.

Various activities such as eye screening for vision problems like short-sightedness, cataracts and glaucoma were held inside the banking hall area.

The National Kidney Foundation conducted health screening for kidney disease using its NKF Mobile Health Screening bus parked in front of the branch.

The free screening was a success and received good response from over 200 residents including children.

Present to lend their support for the project include Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) Federal Development Coordinator Dato’ Dr. Wong Sai Hou, Kelana Jaya MP YB Low Gwo-Burne and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor Jeyaseelan Anthony
